Trapped magnetic field distribution above a superconducting linear Halbach array

Abstract In applications requiring a large magnetic force, permanent magnets with non-parallel magnetization directions can be assembled in Halbach array to generate gradient of flux density. The saturation magnets, however, brings fundamental limit on the performance this configuration. present work, we investigate experimentally assembly cuboid bulk, grain melt-textured YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 ? x superconductors ( ${\sim}14 \times 14 14$?> ? 14 × mm ) orthogonal c -axes so as form basic unit array. experiments are carried out at 77 K. experimental distribution density above trapped-field is compared similar made magnets. A simple analytical model developed and shown accurately reproduce main observations. results suggest that redistribution occurs current flowing central sample when distance between reduced, whereas neighbouring unaffected. It yields reduced contribution centre new negative associated stray fields location. This interpretation confirmed by modelling transport currents superconductor using 3D finite element model.
